The Master of Information Management (MIM) program equips you with the latest analytical, technical, and leadership skills to deliver actionable insights, manage cybersecurity and information risks, oversee information assets, understand ethical considerations, and become information industry leaders. Students can choose to focus on Data Science & Analytics, Cybersecurity & Risk Management, or create a custom focus.

Curriculum

The MIM degree requires 36 credit hours:

4 Core Courses (12 Credits) required of all students that provide a foundation of skills and knowledge related to technology, information, and management.
8 Additional Courses (24 Credits) to develop advanced knowledge and skills in data science and analytics, cybersecurity and risk management, and leadership and innovation.

MIM Data Tracks

Three tracks are available:

We offer a flexible mix of modalities (in-person and online) and schedules (daytime and evening). You can complete the program as quickly as two years or enroll part-time. You can choose electives to focus on your area of interest and develop expert-level skills tailored to careers in data science, analytics, cybersecurity, and risk management.

We are the University of Maryland’s College of Information and are your gateway to the information economy and a launchpad for your career in data analytics, human centered cybersecurity, and information risk management. We are located in the Baltimore-Washington DC metropolitan region – a hub for networking, experiential learning, internships, entrepreneurship, and jobs. Our College offers unparalleled opportunities for study, exploration, and employment with easy access to local, national, and international information leaders as well as an active alumni network.

As a vital part of Maryland’s cybersecurity and start-up ecosystems, our close partnerships with corporations, government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, entrepreneurs, and think-tanks bring expertise to our programs while providing hands-on experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

We are a short drive or metro ride from the booming high tech industry of Northern Virginia, the biomedical corridor of Bethesda, MD, the famous information institutions in Washington DC such as the National Archives, and influential Federal and State information and cybersecurity policy agencies such as NIST, the FCC, and the NSA.

The region also offers diverse cultural and recreational resources including museums, festivals, national landmarks, parks, restaurants, shops and professional sports teams.

Culture and Student Life

You will be joining a dynamic and diverse College with 2600+ students from 61 countries. There are lots of student organizations, service opportunities, and social activities.

The annual week-long Info Challenge provides an opportunity for college students to compete in solving real-world problems for social good in the areas of data analytics, cybersecurity, and design – using projects and mentors provided by partner organizations.
The MIM Student Association (MIMSA) provides industry networking events and social opportunities for members. It organizes events such as:
- Alumni panels, resume improvement sessions, mock interviews
- Back-to-school, homecoming, end-of-semester celebrations
The MIM Mentorship Program connects MIM alumni mentors with current students
The MIM Speaker Series features talks with Industry professionals
The Information College Alumni Network promotes and supports the UMD College of Information (INFO), encourages academic and professional prominence, facilitates career development, inspires a spirit of loyalty, and fosters lasting connections that create a beneficial network of INFO graduates from all our degree programs.
